Hamburgers
I am going to break from my series of religious topics and try something totally different.
Where do you find the best tasting HAMBURGER ?
(Now this actually may be a religious topic to some people!)
I live in Phoenix, Arizona, which is now the fifth largest city in the United States. We have a lot of places to get hamburgers. I do have a favorite spot. Recently one of the local TV stations did a segment on this topic and they took my suggestion and actually video taped me munching on a gorgeous burger. (I will check to see if the link to the video is still alive.)
So, in the comments please list your favorite hamburger place. If you do not eat hamburgers then you may suggest your favorite alternative and the rest of us may want to give that a try.
Here is my list in a rough order of preference:
The Original Hamburger Works, Phoenix, Arizona, The Big One (with bacon added)
Burger King, Whopper
Burger King, Angus Steak Burger
McDonalds, Big N' Tasty
Wendy's, Double Stack
Carl's Jr., Famous Star
Jack in the Box, Jumbo Jack
Elias Brother's Big Boy, Onion Burger (Detroit, Michigan area)
Taco Bell, Bell Burger (no longer available)
Arby's, Super Roast Beef (they don't sell burgers, so next best thing)
I have not tried them but I hear that these are great:
Omaha Steaks Burgers
An interesting "History of Hamburgers" can be found at:

So, what and where is your favorite hamburger?

How about my stove?
Okay. Of the chains, In and Out is the best here but out of my price range with the kids.
We're fans of Jack's and Wendy's. Never Carl's Jr - I've been boycotting them because of their horrid commercials (except for the guys trying to cook breakfast - they're classics, if sexist).
Actually, the girls would rather have chicken nuggets out and burgers at home.
Yes, I left off home-made. My Dad makes very good hamburgers and I'll bet that you do too, Ann.
We have a few In and Outs around Phoenix, but none near me so I have not tried their food.
I really enjoyed a hamburger that I had at Johnny Rockets in Syracuse. Johnny Rockets is this chain (franchise) of hamburger places built in a 50's motif (like your grandmother's kitchen chairs and table). The booths have those jukebox selection things on the wall, and they give you nickels to feed into it.
All they serve is "hamburger joint" food (hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, onion rings, soda and milk shakes).
I think the nostalgic motif had a lot to do with the enjoyment of the hamburger (it was a little pricey, but that's ok).
Tony, we had a great place here in Phoenix with the 50's motif (Ed Debevick's) but it closed a couple of years ago.
Your post today (Backward/Forward) is great. I will get back to you about talking/conferencing.
Okay,
T.J's Cheeseburgers (only served from my grill)
In & Out
Houstons (Washington D.C)
5 Guys
Red Robin
uhhhuuu
home cooked only dude!!!!!
Andrea, of course, I have to ask you: in Japan is there any place besides home to get hamburgers? I've heard of Kobe Beef when I was in Okinawa (30 years ago) and I remember going to a special restaurant to eat it.
My only problem with home-cooked is the cook: me! I can ruin anything.
So, in hamburgers I look for consistency. The places I listed on the blog are dependable for good, even great, food. As for home-cooked: consistently inconsistent.

japanese hamburgers suck. sigh
and kobe beef is steak or in slices tooooooo expensive to really enjoy. sigh sigh
I can get a decent australian beef steak at the steak restaurant down the road. not too expensive either. no burgers.
Dads burger is still the best.

I`m not a big hamburger fan, either -- I enjoy one now and then, but don`t go out of my way to get them.
Speaking of delicious, check out this site:

OK, fans. Check out the site that L. suggested. But for another alternative think: HONEY
I had completely forgotten about Hamburger Works!
I used to eat there all the time in my late teens!
THANK YOU!
This just showed up again with a new date.
Joe's Cable Car on Mission at Silver (across from the Jewish Home). Damn fine burgers made from fresh ground (right there, in fact) beef.
Used to be a place called Clown Alley -- one on Columbus (frequented by all the hookers from Broadway) and one on Lombard -- but they've been gone for years. There was another one that was really good, but I'm old and forgetful now.
stumbled across your blog, so I thought I would share something about burgers. First American kobe beef is available in most fine dining rooms. It tastes just as good as its Japanese counterpart. Try th enew place in Gilbert called simply burgers www.simply-burgers.com . They have certified ANgus burgers besides Kobe burgers, Organic Chicken burgers, veggie as well as vegan burgers, Seared Ahi Tuna burgers, salmon burgers to name a few. And yes they are affordable. They have chicken tikka burgers to die far.
Okay, best burgers...best fries EVER -- Hunter House Hamburgers in Birmingham, Michigan. You try those sliders one time and never get the taste out of your mouth -- makes you want to run right back there! They're an original 50's style diner and have been in business 55 years. Try a double cheeseburger with everything and chili cheese fries. I'm heading there right now...!
