Catholics and Condoms
I am posting the following news article because my readers have previously expressed concern over the Catholic prohibition of the use of condoms for any reason.
Vatican draft document would approve condoms for married couples with AIDS
Traditional ban on birth control still stands
By JOHN L. ALLEN JR.
Rome
A forthcoming Vatican document is set to state that use of condoms by a married couple, where one partner is infected with HIV/AIDS and the other is not, can be acceptable to prevent the transmission of the disease.
Sources say the document will insist that this position does not mark a break with the church's traditional ban on birth control, expressed in Pope Paul VI's 1968 encyclical Humanae Vitae. What would be approved is not contraception, they say, but disease prevention.

A crack in the dyke?
Your new post came up on bloglines but not year (it will eventually). Anyhow, the girls are beautiful. Doesn't a year go by fast?
Excuse me - I think I meant dike.
Wonder what kind of slip that was. Giggle.
Ann, sorry, but I just assumed that you were being funny! I laughed.
You know what thought bothers me, if the Vatican changes its condom policy? All the devout African Catholics who followed church teachings, eschewed condoms, contracted HIV from their partners and died of AIDS.
I know we can say, "Oh, they`re fine -- they`re in heaven," but if only they had been born a little later, they might still be alive on earth with their children.
So sad.
Wow well I think that it is odd that people wouldn't wear a condom if there spouse has AIDS........ I mean I wouldn't listen to anyone but my doctor about that stuff. It astounds me that people are willing to sicken and die needlessly for a Pope that is sheltering child molosters and rapest in a religion that is fosters the drinking of blood and the eating of flesh. It is only by his mercy that they are granted a repirive and allowed to wear a condom. WOOT!
Hummm ok that took me all like 3 seconds..... but just to let you know I can calm it down or go away if I ever get to much. I don't stay if I am not wanted and DO have more to me the dripping sarcasm and bad spelling. ..... well I think I do.
Achromic, in Africa the society is no where near as developed as ours. The people don't even know that they have a choice to use condoms.
The problem that the Catholic missionaries face is that the Church prohibits them from even talking about condoms. Thus people do not even know that they could use condoms to prevent disease.
While that is true in certin countries in Africa (I love how people treat it like it is one place..... it is bigger then the USA, Western Europe, the middle East all rolled into one) and certianly can be true in impoverised lands the problem that I see is that it CAN also be true in MS. and parts of LA. It isn't technical advances that protect people from blind ignorance. It is that some people CHOOSE it and then foster it on others. And the Catholic church is guilty of manpulating vunreble people to its own ends. There is no good reason to oppose people wearing condoms...... but boy they sure do jump thru hopes to find one. Their excuse is an outdated unverfied book that lets them partake in barbaric pratices ..... including hiding child molosters from the law. We would NEVER allow any other religious cult so much leeway. We burned down Waco with less proof then we have against the Catholic church.
